DINAGAT FESTIVAL

HISTORY OF DINAGAT FESTIVAL

Dinagat Festival is cetebrated in cordova, in honor of the town's patron saint senior san roque. an annual celebration held every month of august. This Festival is the time of the year when the townsfolk show their gratitude for beautiful harvest they have received from the sea. This is because the main livelihood of cordova has always been, then and now, fishing. This festival currently celebrates its 25th anniversary. the annual festival was started last august 14, 1999. One of the founder of this Festival is the first lady of our late former Town Mayor of cordora. " Tina sitoy"
I have experienced being a dancer at the Dinagat Festival, and it was such an amazing experience to be able to dance in the grand stand and dance to honor our pation saint, san Roque this grandest festival is the most anticipated festival that us cordovanhen awaits every year.

Upon entrance alone, you will be held in awe by the spectacular costumes and colors of the festival. It is during this time that you see the townsfolk, young and old, dress up as sea creatures for the competition. Their props also add to the feel of being with sea creatures. The common themes depicted in the Dinagat dances are folktales, livelihood, current events regarding the sea, and awareness raising. So if you want to get to know the Cordovanhons in one show, watch, enjoy, and be amazed by the Dinagat festival.
